Vajaa kuukausi Sveitsissä ja tönkkö-Saksa alkaa sujua, mahtavaa! Lukioaikaisista opinnoista (joiden jälkeen vettä on kerennyt jo virrata Pielisjoessa yllin kyllin) on ollut kuitenkin jotain hyötyä, koska alkeet ovat alkaneet muistua mieleen melkoisen helposti ja kieli tarttua.

Hokianalytiikka jatkuu, minun vuoroni

Hockey and Analytics by my bro
I was planning to blog about this subject myself too at some point, but since I've been a lazy blogger my brother was first. Here is his article about Web Analytics Metrics vs. Hockey Stats in his blog after the NHL finals. His latest blog post was also interesting cause he had analyzed search results which also included some stats about me :). Congrats Pete for having a blogging anniversary!

Minulla tosin on hienoinen etu asiassa työtaustani vuoksi.

Using Twitter To Unite The Women’s Hockey World - #womenshockey Hashtag
In my job at Kwantic, and also as a free time hobby, I use Twitter to follow the latest news and gurus to know what’s happening in our field of web analytics. I also use Twitter to promote my club team Espoo Blues Naiset and the Women's National Team, share links about women’s hockey and also follow other players, coaches, etc. in the women’s hockey world. Twitter is an interesting tool compared to e.g. Facebook in a way that you can openly follow just about anyone, even your toughest opponent in the rink if you’d like. It is also wonderful for following specific events in real time through people’s tweets and hashtags. If you don’t know what a hashtag is, see Twitter Support: What are hashtags (the "#" symbol)?

Media-Terhin ajatuksia mediasta

Internet Marketing Conference in Stockholm
Last week I participated in the Internet Marketing Conference in Stockholm. My brother Petri Mertanen was also there and I was glad to see his presentation on Campaign Tracking and Marketing Optimization. The link is to his blog Pete Box of Analytics where he has some nice pics about the event and people, also me ;).
There were lots of interesting presentations at the event and it was actually a tough job to choose between presentations as there were two going on at the same time. The ones that I saw and caught my attention the most was Interwoven presenting Multi Variate testing, Web Trends' presenting their Ad Director (a Search Advertising Optimization Software) and Anna Eriksson from Keybroker giving presentation on Proactive and Result-Oriented Search Engine Marketing.
Without being buyest - for true - I also think that Steve Jacson's (from our Analytics Unit at Trainers' House) presentation about the Insight Model was also insightful (and fun with all the bananas). To put it short what the presentation was all about, the Insight Model combines data from different sources and generates a 360-degree view of the visitor.
I definitelly recommend participating, and actually the next IMC is held pretty soon in March in Helsinki.
